Recent Road Trip

May 21, 2008

Last weekend we took some time to visit Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westscott House in Springfield Ohio. Anyone with even a passing interest in FLW architecture should definitely check it out. We’ve added photos in our mid-west photo gallery. A great deal of effort and money went into the restoration and preservation of this architectural masterpiece in our own backyard. Visiting helps support this piece of history. Here is the link to the Westscott House webpage: Westscott House.

Afterwards we stopped into Yellow Springs, Ohio. It’s a small hippie town and former home of Antioch college. The town is quaint with small pubs, vegetarian restaurants, head shops and general hippie type shops selling incense, bongs and pipes. There are also plenty of shops selling handmade crafts from local artisans including pottery and wood carvings. Despite the bongo banging hippies and peacenik vibe the town is a very interesting place to visit and shop for unique locally made art. The future of the town is in question though. With the closure of Antioch college many businesses will feel the pinch.
