GenCon 2009!

Brad, William and I just returned from GenCon 2009. It’s a 4 day board gaming, cosplay, roleplaying, anime, fantasy, sci-fi, video gaming convention that takes place every year in Indianapolis. Brad learned how to make realistic terrain, William picked up a sweet predator head cookie jar and Kevin bought a t-shit with a winged cat. Another Summer in Maine

I haven’t updated in a while. To summarize the last 9 months: We had a beautiful baby girl named Vivienne (thanks for all the votes… we threw it all out the window) and moved to the East side of Cincinnati. We just returned from Maine. It was Vivienne’s first time at Higgin’s beach. We also had a good time with the cousins at Erin’s wedding and at the beach. Winds of Change

By this time everyone knows the blessed news. Lisa and I are expecting a little bundle of crazy love. “Violet” (working title) is due on March 4th. Below is her first mugshot.

In other news. I recently stopped down to Balluminaria in Eden Park, Cincinnati. Every year regional balloonists setup around the reflecting pond and put on a show. You can view pictures by clicking HERE or clicking the photo below.

Before Halloween. We had the opportunity to see Vince’s Fiancee Paula play the Dobro, a variation of the resonance guitar (according to Wikipedia), in a Bluegrass band. Photos of the band can be seen by clicking HERE or clicking the photo below.

Kevin left his longtime employer of nearly 8 years, FKI Logistex, to take a new position at Xavier University. So far he loves the job and his new team. Before taking the position he took a drive up the coast of Michigan. He stopped at a handful of towns along Lake Michigan including Holland, Port Haven and Manistee. He then headed to the Upper Peninsula to kayak Lake Superior near Pictured Rocks National Park. Photos from that trip can be seen HERE or by clicking the photo below.

And one final programming note. We’ve sold the Mason condo and we’re relocating to the East side of Cincinnati to be closer to Lisa’s family. Come visit and when the weather warms up, bring your pool towel.

2008 Walk for Farm Animals

Farm Sanctuary is an organization that works to end cruelty to farm animals and promotes compassionate living through rescue, education and advocacy.

A B&B Weekend in Windsor

We had a relaxing weekend in Windsor, Ontario over the Labor Day Holiday. On our way up, we made a brief stop at the Henry Ford Museum near Detroit. The museum is very interesting and showcases American ingenuity, artifacts from the Industrial Revolution and objects of Americana such as the Kennedy Limousine, Lincolns theater chair and the Rosa Parks Bus. Plus they had a chocolate exhibit.

Our accommodations for the weekend were at the Windsor Inn On The River Bed and Breakfast. Everyone there was very nice. The rooms were clean, spacious and well appointed. The Inn overlooks the river and is right across the street from a riverside park. It’s easy to recommend a stay here.

We spent a lot of time in Windsor’s downtown and along the parks on the riverfront. We also visited the Hiram Walker & Sons distillery where Canadian Club Whiskey is made and we took a drive through the country to visit a number of wineries. Maine 2008

We’re back from another Summer in Maine. It was uncharacteristically rainy this year with only 3 good beach days. But that didn’t keep us from having a good time at Higgins Beach with family. We hit all the regular spots as well: Fort Williams, Two Lights, Kettle Cove, The Old Port, Amatos, Anjon’s and Old Orchard Beach. Kevin took a side trip Down East to kayak Penobscot Bay and visit the small fishing village of Port Clyde.

A visit to Hocking Hills

We visited Hocking Hills State Park a few weekends ago. The trip was planned at the last minute. The landscape around the park is unlike any other place in Ohio. It’s a deep gorge with beautiful waterfalls and moss covered caves. You can easily spend a whole day hiking non-stop and still not see a fraction of what the park offers.
